Chiropractic Helps Children Develop into Healthy Adults

Even before their baby is born, conscientious parents-to-be will begin their training by reading about the care and feeding of children.  They will carefully and lovingly prepare warm, soft clothing and a cozy nursery. When the child enters the world, he/she will be completely examined for physical and mental defects and problems...or will they?  Studies show that 7 out of 10 children show definite spinal distortions.

Rarely do child-care books, and only a handful of doctors, give attention to this extremely vital matter - the proper care of a baby’s spine and nervous system. Yet it may be in infancy that such serious problems as misalignments, subluxations, fixations, spinal curvatures, and other structural distortions have their beginnings.  It is in early childhood when they are most easily and effectively corrected, before the body has accommodated itself to such problems.

As the child grows older and more active, their body may receive more stress in a single day than most adults experience in a year. Bumps, jumps, twists, falls, etc., constantly subject the growing spine to potential injury. All too often, these injuries are unnoticed and untreated.

Your child should be checked periodically by a chiropractor during his formative years. Children make good chiropractic patients. Along with regular medical, dental, optical, and other health checkups, be sure your children receive invaluable chiropractic spine and nerve care.

Pregnancy and Chiropractic Care

During pregnancy, the increasing weight and size of the baby put stress on the spines three natural curves.  As a result, changes in posture occur that can cause pain in your back or legs.

As your baby grows, you carry more weight in front of you. This stretches your abdominal muscles. When you stand, the baby pushes down on the thoracic curve (middle back) and forward on the lumbar curve (lower back). The larger the baby grows, the more exaggerated these curves become. This puts pressure on the joints and spine.  It may also put pressure on the nerves, causing pain. The sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower spine down the legs, can also become irritated, causing pain in your legs.  At the same time, joints in the pelvis loosen.  This helps prepare you for delivery, but it can also irritate nerves in the spine.

Chiropractic care is a natural way to treat back pain during and after pregnancy. Your doctor of chiropractic is specially trained to determine the best treatment for your needs.
